What we see in Goleta homes.
Many Goleta homes were built with forced air furnaces and ducts in the attic or crawlspace. Upgrading those systems usually brings the biggest gains in comfort and efficiency.
Replacing an aging furnace and AC
A heat pump heats and cools from one system, and it suits the mild coastal climate. We replace the furnace and condenser together and size the new system to the home instead of to the old one.
Ducts that leak or are undersized
Ducts in attics and crawlspaces lose air through gaps and poor connections. California requires HERS duct testing on most system changes, and we repair or replace ducts so the house passes.
Fireplace service and chimney safety
Gas fireplaces need a check before the season. We do gas and CO testing with a Level 1 safety check, sweeps, and Level 2 camera inspections when you need a full report.
Dryer vents and air quality
Lint in a dryer vent is a fire risk and makes dryers work harder. We clean vents, check airflow, and set up filters and systems that keep indoor air cleaner.
Codes we work to in Goleta.
The City of Goleta issues the permits in Goleta, and the rules change. We checked these rules in October 2026. The building department has the final say, and we check what applies to your address when we write your proposal.
Who permits the work
Goleta is an incorporated city, so permits and inspections go through the City of Goleta. Your proposal lists the permit and its cost, and we schedule the inspections and the HERS duct testing California requires on most system changes.
Goleta's local energy reach codes
The City of Goleta has been adopting local energy amendments that go beyond the state code. An EV reach code took effect in October 2024. An energy performance reach code for new buildings, with electric ready provisions and room for mixed fuel designs, had its first reading on February 5, 2025. These apply to new buildings, and accessory dwelling units and small units are largely exempted. For a replacement or remodel we confirm what applies when we write your proposal.

Wood smoke and gas conversions
The Santa Barbara County Air Pollution Control District has reported that wood smoke from fireplaces and woodstoves makes up nearly a third of wintertime fine particle pollution in the county, and has run incentives to replace wood burning devices with gas inserts or heat pumps. If you want to retire a wood fireplace, ask us about a gas insert.

Statewide rules apply in Goleta too
Any furnace, heat pump or duct change falls under the California Energy Code. That means a permit and a duct test by an outside tester. Homes with gas appliances also need carbon monoxide alarms. Both are explained on the service areas page.

Common questions.
Anything else, call or text me.
Do you serve Goleta?
Yes. Goleta is part of our regular service area. Call (805) 699-1112 for a free estimate.
Should I replace my furnace and AC with a heat pump?
Often it makes sense, especially on the coast where winters are mild. A heat pump heats and cools from one system. We look at your ducts, your electrical panel and how you use the house before recommending it.
Why does California require duct testing?
The state energy code requires duct leakage testing by an independent HERS rater on most system replacements that involve ducts, because leaky ducts waste energy. We schedule the test as part of the job.
How often should a dryer vent be cleaned?
At least once a year is the common recommendation, and sooner if clothes take longer to dry. We clean the vent and check airflow.
