- Before you hire
Everything you'd want to know before you hire us.
Straight answers to the questions people ask before they let a contractor into their home. If yours isn't here, call or text Jeremy.
How it goes, from the first call to years later.
Six steps, the same for every job, big or small.
You call or text.
Tell us what's going on. If it's urgent, we say honestly how soon we can be there.
We walk through the house.
Free. We look at the space, the gas, the vent route, the ducts and the panel, and answer questions.
You get one written number.
A flat rate proposal with every line on it, the permit named and the warranty terms written down.
We do the work.
On time, drop cloths down, and a clear word about each day's work.
We test it with you there.
Gas leak and carbon monoxide tests, then a walkthrough of how it works and what to look after.
We stay your contractor.
Warranty terms in writing, reminders in your calendar, and help with any warranty claim on equipment we installed.
Who we are.
Are you licensed, and can I check?
Yes. California contractor license #1086420, classification C-20 for heating, ventilating and air conditioning. You can look it up on the Contractors State License Board site, where our workers' comp insurance is on file too.
Who comes to the house?
J & J's is family owned and run by Jeremy Varela. You talk to the people who do the work, not a call center.
Are you certified?
We're NATE certified for heating and air, and our sweeps are done by a CSIA Certified Chimney Sweep.
Do you speak Spanish?
Yes. Se habla español. Call or text in Spanish, and this site has a full Spanish version.
Price and paperwork.
What does an estimate cost?
Nothing. Installation estimates are free. Repairs start with a diagnostic at a set rate, listed on our pricing page.
How is the price set?
Flat rate. You get one written number before any work starts, and the same job in every house gets the same price. The number we quote is the number you pay.
How much do I pay up front?
California caps the down payment on a home improvement contract at $1,000 or 10 percent of the price, whichever is less, and payments can't run ahead of the work. The contract shows each payment and what it covers.
Who handles the permit?
When a job needs a permit, it's named in your proposal with its cost. Permits aren't included unless the proposal says so, so you always know.
How do I compare your quote with someone else's?
Hold every quote to the same list. Our quote comparison tool and our guide show what each one should include, so you can spot what's missing.
The work.
What happens on install day?
We show up on time and tell you what each day's work is. Drop cloths go down before any tool comes out. Before we call it done, we test for gas leaks and carbon monoxide with you in the room.
Which brands do you install?
Samsung, York, Guardian and Goodman for heating and air. We plan the system around how you live in the house, not around what's in the truck.
What should I be holding when we're done?
The warranty for the equipment and for our work, both in writing, the permit sign off when the job needs one, and a walkthrough of the controls and filters.
After the job.
What warranty do I get?
Manufacturer warranties depend on the equipment and brand. Many qualifying systems include up to 10 years of parts coverage, subject to registration and the manufacturer's terms. Our workmanship warranty is one year on qualifying installations, and we help with manufacturer warranty claims on equipment we installed.
What if something isn't right later?
Call or text Jeremy first. We prioritize installation warranty concerns, and we want the chance to make it right. If you smell gas or a carbon monoxide alarm sounds, leave the building and call 911 first.
Will you remind me about upkeep?
Our reminder tool puts sweeps, tune ups and filter changes in your own calendar. Nothing is sent to us.
What do other customers say?
5.0 on Google from 95 reviews and 5.0 on Yelp from 26. Read them in full, the good and the specific.
Call or text Jeremy.
Tell me about the room or the system and we'll set up a free estimate. For a repair, text me a photo of the unit first. It often saves a trip.
