We work in nine towns, from the coast to the valley.
We install and service fireplaces, heating and air in Santa Barbara County, along the coast from Goleta to Carpinteria and up in the valley. Each town has its own homes and its own permit rules: Goleta, Santa Barbara, Carpinteria, Solvang and Buellton are cities with their own building departments, and Montecito, Summerland, Hope Ranch and Santa Ynez are permitted through the County. Pick yours.

What's different in each one.
The work is the same in every town, but the houses, the weather and the permit office are not.

Who permits the work, and what is unique.
Checked October 2026. General information, not legal advice. We confirm the rules for your address when we write your proposal.
| Town | Permits | What is unique |
|---|---|---|
| Goleta | The City of Goleta | City of Goleta permits. Local energy reach codes apply to new buildings (an EV code is in effect; an energy performance code is in progress), and the county air district has offered wood smoke incentives. |
| Hope Ranch | The County of Santa Barbara | County of Santa Barbara permits and County Fire code. Many properties also answer to a homeowner association. |
| Santa Barbara | The City of Santa Barbara | City of Santa Barbara permits. No natural gas piping in newly constructed buildings, and design review in historic districts. |
| Montecito | The County of Santa Barbara | County permits and the Montecito Fire Protection District's 2025 fire code, with sprinkler, roofing and open burning rules. |
| Summerland | The County of Santa Barbara | County of Santa Barbara permits, fire country defensible space rules, and a county ordinance on gas in new construction under discussion. |
| Carpinteria | The City of Carpinteria | City of Carpinteria permits. A municipal chapter on fuel gas in new construction, and much of the town sits in the Coastal Zone. |
| Buellton | The City of Buellton | City of Buellton Building Division permits, under the California Building Standards Code. Zoning comes first on projects that need a land use permit. |
| Solvang | The City of Solvang | City of Solvang Building Division permits, under the California Building Standards Code. Zoning is handled separately by the city. |
| Santa Ynez | The County of Santa Barbara | County of Santa Barbara permits and County Fire code, with a county ordinance on gas in new construction under discussion. |
Two rules that apply in every town.
Whatever the town, these two come with the job. Checked October 2026.
Santa Ynez, Solvang and Buellton too.
We also work in Santa Ynez, Solvang, Buellton and nearby communities. Call with your address and we'll tell you how we can help.
California Energy Code (Title 24, Part 6)
Replacing a furnace, air conditioner or heat pump, or altering ducts, falls under the state energy code. It needs a permit, and most duct work is tested and verified by an independent third party before final inspection. The 2025 code took effect January 1, 2026.

Carbon monoxide alarms
California requires carbon monoxide alarms in homes with fuel burning appliances, fireplaces or an attached garage. Our Level 1 safety check and sweep include gas and CO testing, and we point out any home that is missing alarms.
