Carpinteria: AC repair
The problem. The AC runs or hums, but the house stays hot.
What we do. We cut the power, open the unit and replace the worn capacitor, a small starter part. We check the refrigerant and restart it.
The result. Cool air in the house again.
A small fix is the answer when it is, and we say so.
The steps, in order.
- Cut power at the disconnect
- Open the access panel
- Replace the failed capacitor
- Check the refrigerant charge
- Power up, fan spins
- Cool air comes in
Roadside job near Summerland: Ductless mini split install
The problem. One room is always too hot or too cold, and there are no ducts.
What we do. We mount a slim indoor unit, drill one small hole for the line and set an outdoor unit on a pad. We vacuum the lines and test it.
The result. Heating and cooling for that room, with no new ductwork.
Often a mini split suits cottages, additions and studios without ductwork.
The steps, in order.
- Level the mounting plate
- Core the wall, run the line
- Hang it, connect, vacuum
- Test the cool air
Summerland: New heat pump or outdoor unit
The problem. The old outdoor unit is worn out.
What we do. We set the new unit level on a fresh pad, run the line set and wire the disconnect. Then we start it up.
The result. Heating and cooling from one system.
Estimates are free. The number we quote is the number you pay.
The steps, in order.
- Unload the heat pump
- Wheel it to the new pad
- Set it down, check it's level
- Run the line set cover

Roadside job: Furnace replacement
The problem. The old furnace is failing or no longer heats well.
What we do. We shut off the gas and pull the old furnace from its tight closet. We set the new one level, connect gas, vent, ducts and power, then light it and check it.
The result. A new furnace, tested. We handle the permits and inspections.
We test for gas leaks and carbon monoxide before we leave.
The steps, in order.
- Gas off, old furnace out
- Level the platform, set new one
- Connect gas, vent, ducts, power
- Light it and check
Montecito: Gas fireplace install
The problem. A bare wall where the new gas fireplace goes.
What we do. We slide in the gas firebox and run the vent. Then we frame the wall, insulate it and hang the drywall. We set the marble hearth and oak mantel, then test for gas leaks and CO and light it.
The result. A finished gas fireplace, tested and lit.
The fireplace, its venting and the gas line are planned together.
The steps, in order.
- Slide in the firebox
- Run the flue
- Frame the wall
- Insulate between the studs
- Hang and tape the drywall
- Set the marble slabs

Santa Barbara: Duct work
The problem. Some rooms barely get any air.
What we do. From the attic we lay a metal main duct and run round duct to each register, the outlet where air enters the room. We wrap it and test the airflow.
The result. Air in every room.
We handle the permits, the inspections and the duct leakage test.
The steps, in order.
- Up through the attic hatch
- Set the sheet metal main duct
- Run round duct to each register
- Wrap the duct in insulation
- Seat the ceiling registers
- Test the airflow
Roadside job: Chimney sweep and camera inspection
The problem. The fireplace has not been cleaned or checked in a while.
What we do. Cloths go down and we seal the opening. We brush the flue with a vacuum running. A Level 2 adds a camera up the liner, the chimney lining, and a review.
The result. A clean chimney. With Level 2, a camera report.
Our sweep is CSIA certified, and your floors stay covered.
The steps, in order.
- Cloths down, opening sealed
- Vacuum on, brush up the flue
- Camera up the liner
- Review the camera view
Hope Ranch: Fireplace inspection

What we do. We open the damper and send a camera up the flue, the chimney passage, to look for soot and cracks. We tag problems, check the cap and test the draft.
The result. A clear answer, and a repair list if one is needed.
You see what the camera sees.
The steps, in order.
- Open the damper
- Camera up the flue
- Crack found and tagged
- Check the chimney cap
- Draft test
- Report and repair list
