Accessibility

Making this site easy to use.

How this site is built to be usable with a keyboard, a screen reader, zoom or reduced motion, what we tested, and how to tell us when something gets in the way.

Accessibility statement

What we've done so far and what's still left.

Last reviewed October 15, 2026.

Our goal
Everyone should be able to use this site, including people who use a screen reader, a keyboard, voice control, zoom or reduced motion. We build it to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, level AA. That is our goal, and we test against it. We do not claim the site is perfect.
How we tested
On October 15, 2026 we checked every page in English and Spanish, in the Day and Evening looks, at desktop and phone widths. We used axe, an automated accessibility checker, Google Lighthouse, and an automated keyboard walk that tabs through every page and checks that the focus outline shows. We also used the keyboard alone, zoomed text to 200 percent, narrowed the screen to 320 pixels, added extra letter and line spacing, tried Windows high contrast colors, and turned on the reduced motion setting.
What is built in
A skip link at the top of every page. Every link and button works with the keyboard and shows a clear outline when it has focus. Photos carry text descriptions. Text can grow to 200 percent without anything getting cut off. Nothing plays sound or video on its own. Motion stops when your device asks for reduced motion, and short decorations stop by themselves within five seconds.
Drawings, 3D and games
The 3D room on the home page, the house drawing, the coast drive, the house tour and the games on the play page are extras. You don't need them. The same information is on the regular pages in words. The games start only when you choose one, close with the Esc key, and work with the keyboard.
The coast drive
The drive from Carpinteria to Goleta is a 3D picture. The truck only moves when you scroll. Pause motion stops everything else that moves, and it starts paused if your device asks for reduced motion. Every job in it is also written out as text right after the drive, and a skip link at the top jumps straight there. The map buttons zoom and turn the view, so you don't need to drag.
The house tour
The tour of a two story house is a 3D drawing that moves only as you scroll. Pause stops the motion, and it starts paused if your device asks for reduced motion. Every scene is also written out in a list right under it, and a link near the top jumps straight there. The room light and fireplace buttons are real buttons that work with a keyboard.
Sounds
The alarm sounds on the carbon monoxide guide play only when you press a button. Each sound is also described in words.
Known limitations
On the map view of the coast drive, a few town pins sit close together. The Services button lists every job, so you can open any of them without tapping a pin. On a computer without a graphics chip, the drive shows the jobs as cards instead of 3D, and the home page shows still pictures of the room.
What we haven't tested yet
We have not yet run a full test with a screen reader on a phone (VoiceOver or TalkBack) or on a Windows computer (NVDA), or with people who use assistive technology every day. Links to Google, Yelp and other sites follow those sites' own accessibility.
